ABOUT US

How We Teach

When your child starts at Olive Tree, they will be assigned a key person, responsible for tracking the progress of your child. Children thrive from loving and secure relationships and though this is normally provided by yourself, we want your child to feel safe and cared for at nursery. ‘Children who form good attachment with their carers are more likely to progress positively across all areas of development’.

The EYFS

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for learning, development and care for children from birth till five years of age. For more details on how the EYFS is implemented in our settings, please see our curriculum.

More About The EYFS

Our Ethos

"Being a mother of four children when I opened the first branch of Olive Tree Nursery, I understood how terrifying it is to choose a nursery for your child. Would my child be happy? Would the staff take good care of him? Would he be safe?

These were all questions I asked myself and are still questions that underpin everything we do at Olive Tree Nurseries. In these pages, I hope to show you how we nurture our learners and to give you the confidence to know that they are in safe hands.

I believe that the first 5 years of a child’s life are pivotal to their long-term success and knowing that I can be a part of that was one of my main motivations for developing Olive Tree Nurseries. I look forward to welcoming you and your children to one of our nurseries in the future."

Creativity

We believe that children learn best when playing and encourage them to develop a questioning attitude.

Learning

We run individual, small group and larger group sessions for all ages, so children become accustomed to a range of settings.

Inclusivity

We promote diversity and inclusivity and do not tolerate any form of discrimination

Relationships

Most of our staff have been with us for several years and we never use agency staff so the children (and their parents!) always see a familiar face.

Communication

We incorporate Makaton (child friendly sign language) which supports children with additional needs, those for whom English is a not a home language and those who are shy in their first few days away from home.

Safeguarding

We ensure that children’s needs are always put first and that all our staff know how to act in a timely fashion should any issues arise.

Our Curriculum

Our practice is based on four guiding principles:

1

Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

2

Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

3

Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and/or carers.

4

Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.

Learning & Development

Our approach to learning is through a holistic, play based curriculum which is child led and where adults are viewed as partners in learning. We believe that children learn best through:

First hand experiences which are well structured and meaningful

Interacting with others in a cognitive and reflective way

Being physically active

Having their interests valued, developed and extended
